At LTER-LIFE we are developing an infrastructure that supports researchers in building digital twins of ecosystems. To do so, we need to know what digital twins people would like to create.
Digital twins can have a range of purposes and applications. You can use them to describe a small component of an ecosystem or for a highly complex and multi-scale approach, incorporating multiple models of parts of the ecosystem. They can operate on historic data only or be continuously updated with the latest data. They can be used to support research, providing easy access to background data, or be used in policy and operational decision support.
